She emphasized that scholarships, mentorship, and initiatives like the Tertiary Institution Trust Fund (TETFUND), which supported her MSc, are essential in equipping women with the resources needed to excel. “Such programs are crucial for women, providing tools and opportunities that can help level the playing field in academia and beyond,” she argued, adding that institutions need to adopt more gender-sensitive policies to support women in their professional journeys.

Prior to the prestigious selection, Ogunbodede received full travel grants from the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) to participate in her conference titled “Peace Technology” in Nairobi, Kenya, where she presented the preliminary of her paper “Social Media and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria” These opportunities exposed her to cutting-edge research in political science, enriching her perspectives and providing insights that have since informed her work on gender and inclusion because throughout the conference only a few women were in attendant, She recounts.

Reflecting on her journey, Ogunbodede explained how these recognitions had inspired her to focus her research on addressing systemic gender marginalization because her visit to Her experiences has galvanized her commitment to push for equal opportunities in academia and beyond, particularly through policies that dismantle barriers for women. Her efforts have deep roots, as shown by her earlier achievements, including a TETFUND scholarship for her MSc in Political Science and her leadership roles during her undergraduate years, when she was awarded merit awards for her service as Financial Secretary and Treasurer in the National Association of Public Administration Students (NAPADS) at The Polytechnic Ibadan.

Through her achievements and advocacy, Ogunbodede continues to carve a path for women in academia, proving that with support and recognition, women can drive significant change and inspire future generations.

“Being selected as an Emerging Scholar from Africa by the American Political Science Association through the African Politics Conference Group and receiving travel grants from prestigious organizations like the American Political Association and International Peace Research Association has not only elevated my academic profile but also reinforced my dedication to gender equity,” Ogunbodede stated.

She emphasized that these recognitions validate her commitment to overcoming challenges women often face in academia.

“These awards are a testament to the progress we can make when women are given platforms and opportunities. They have strengthened my resolve to push for policies that ensure equal access and fair treatment in educational and professional spaces.”

“Institutions have a responsibility to level the playing field by providing resources that empower women to reach their full potential. We must continue advocating for policies that dismantle structural barriers and allow women’s talents and contributions to flourish.”
