Lagos to procure 14 new tractors, ancillary equipment

As part of measures to boost farmers’ productivity in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, revealed that the state government would procure 14 new tractors.

As part of measures to boost farmers’ productivity in Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, revealed that the state government would procure 14 new tractors.
 
Speaking at the grand finale of the week-long 2021 World Food Day celebration, Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Hakeem Adeniji, said: “Agricultural productivity in Lagos is estimated at 25 per cent of total food demand with the vision of upscaling it to 50 per cent of today demand through the implementation of various initiatives, programmes and strategy, which I am glad to inform you are yielding the required results in terms of increase in productivity, as a result of the improved capacity of our farmers as well as employment through the agricultural value chain.”  

 
The governor noted that World Food Day is celebrated yearly to sensitise the citizens on the importance and necessity for food security and access to food and nutrition, especially among the vulnerable in society.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, represented by the Director, Agriculture Services, Mrs Abiola Ayoade, narrated past intervention programmes of the state government aimed at encouraging and boosting farmers’ productivity, noting that this year’s edition of the World Food Day celebration had been enhanced with series of activities during the week-long celebration which culminated in the grand finale.
