LASODA celebrates innovation, inclusion at ability expo, talent hunt

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to promoting innovation, creativity, and inclusion with the successful hosting of the 2025 Ability Expo and Talent Hunt.

The one-day event, held at Shomolu Local Council, provided a platform for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to showcase their products, skills, and talents, highlighting the limitless potential within the community when given equal opportunities.

The programme featured a vibrant talent hunt competition which saw participants engage in dancing and singing contests that thrilled the audience.
In recognition of the efforts of the participants in the competition, winners across the various categories received cash rewards which served as encouragement for the PWDs to continue to pursue and develop their talents to greater heights.

While addressing the participants, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde Lawal, represented by Mrs. Olukanni-Abokhai, Director, Department of Medical Rehabilitation, Mobility Aids and Appliances, reaffirmed LASODA’s commitment to “inclusion, empowerment, and equal opportunities for all.”

She stressed, “PWDs are not defined by their limitations, but by their skills, talents, and contributions to society.” Oyetunde-Lawal expressed heartfelt appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support of inclusive initiatives, and acknowledged the contributions of caregivers, partners, and the PWD community.

On his part, the Director, Social Development and Integration, Mr Akeem Kelani, commended the ingenuity of members of the disability community and assured them of the State Government’s unwavering support towards fostering a more inclusive society.

He stated that the 2025 Ability Expo and Talent Hunt further reaffirmed the State’s vision of building a Lagos where no one is left behind, regardless of physical or social limitations.

Also speaking, the Director of Admin and Human Resource of LASODA, Mrs. Omolade Sonubi, expressed appreciation to all participants, guests, and stakeholders for making the 2025 Ability Expo a memorable and impactful occasion.

The event also featured engaging lectures, one of the lecturers, Mrs. Morenikeji Omaiboje, spoke on “Sensitising PWDs Against Trafficking in Persons and Irregular Migration.” Her lecture addressed the vulnerability of PWDs to exploitation while offering practical steps toward awareness and prevention.
