MANY do not understand the stifling uncomfortable sensation of an invisible glass ceiling hovering over everything they are involved in. It is as if there is an influence or force saying “this far and no more.” This is a clear indication of bondage by the forces of darkness.

Bible Passage: Psalms 126:1-6.
Memory Verse: “That then the LORD thy God will turn thy captivity, and have compassion upon thee…” Deuteronomy 30:3.

Introduction

MANY do not understand the stifling uncomfortable sensation of an invisible glass ceiling hovering over everything they are involved in. It is as if there is an influence or force saying “this far and no more.” This is a clear indication of bondage by the forces of darkness.

Captivity

Captivity in this sense means spiritual incarceration. It limits capacity to blossom and truncates potential and destiny. It can manifest in many ways. It is a form of chain, rope or other limiting force such as sickness, Acts 12:6-8, 2 Kgs. 13:14; Luke 4:38-39; John 5:5-6; persistent error of judgement, wrong placement, Luke 10:39-40; Jonah 1:3-4; 2 Sam. 11:1-2. It may also be due to a faulty foundation, I Chro. 4:9-10; Gen. 32:26-28; great opposition, Gen. 37:18-20; Gen. 26:18-22; faulty marriage, I Kgs. 16:31-32; I Kgs. 11:1-3; through infertility and barrenness of the land or operational environment, I Kings 16:34; Exo. 15:23.

Lawful Captivity

Captivity may also be self-imposed, Num. 13:30-33; poverty–driven greed Luke 16:20-21; frustration and desperation, fruitlessness or barrenness, I Sam. 1:4-6; Gen. 16:1-2. It may also be due to misuse of gifts, Eze. 37:1-2; Matt. 25:24-25; neglect, Esth. 6:1-3; I Sam. 16:10-11. However, the greatest captivity is when one is tied down by sin, Judges 16:1, 18-21.

Freedom

To get out of captivity, especially lawful captivity, you need to repent from all your sins and be converted, Acts 3:19-20. You also need to examine yourself, correct your mistakes, make restitution and prayerfully realign your life with divine instruction, 2 Cor. 13:5. You need to call on Jesus to deliver you and rebuild your foundations, praying until your answer comes, Pro. 18:10; Ps. 11:3; John 16:24. Also, to keep your freedom, always ensure that God is present with you, Eph. 4:30.

Conclusion

It is time to rise up against every type of captivity in your life. If you are willing to be free, God will help you. Do something about it today. More than anything else, God wants to break every yoke of oppression in your life. And so shall it be in the mighty name of Jesus.
