Luxe Dental, through its Smile Doctor Foundation, has provided free comprehensive oral check-ups to 150 senior citizens in Lagos State.

In collaboration with LASODA at the Elderly Care Programme in Ikeja Lagos, this initiative is part of the foundation’s quarterly medical outreach.

It is motivated by the WHO’s estimate that over 3.5 billion people suffer from oral health diseases globally.

Smile Dental Foundation, led by Dr. Funmi Adeniyi, therefore, took to the communities, starting with Lagos, to change the narrative of the people.

“We strive to democratize oral care for marginalized populations across Nigeria, focusing particularly on the elderly and persons with disabilities to their unique oral health challenges.

“We want to raise awareness about oral health and reduce the global burden of diseases associated with it,” says Adeniyi.

Beneficiaries received toothbrushes and toothpaste, dental consultations, counseling, and services like scaling, polishing, fillings, and extractions.

The foundation’s passion for improving dental health is evident in Adeniyi’s efforts to make oral care accessible to the most vulnerable while raising awareness about maintaining healthy oral hygiene practices.

She highlighted the importance of routine dental treatments every six months, noting that underserved populations often neglect oral health due to financial constraints. “If they can’t afford to feed daily, is it oral care they will think of?”

Adeniyi emphasized that reaching out to these marginalized communities is a core focus of the foundation’s mission. “We will continue to impact lives across underserved rural areas,” added Adeniyi.

The Luxe Dental founder also reckoned that the foundation’s outreach was made possible through partnerships with organizations like the Lagos State Disability Centre focusing on disenfranchised groups such as children, women, and the elderly.

“We invite various organizations to partner with us to democratize oral care and lessen the global burden of diseases,” she emphasized.

This appeal reflects the foundation’s commitment to enhancing healthcare indices and ensuring that marginalized populations receive essential dental care, which is often overlooked due to financial constraints.
