In the last few years, incidents of breast cancer undoubtedly have significantly increased among Nigerian women, as experts say it presently accounts for about 26.7 per cent of all cancers in the country.

To this end, the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) has recently joined support to raise awareness on breast cancer through its partnership with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), “Run For A Cure Africa.”

The company’s Legal, Public Affairs and Communications Director, Mrs. Folasade Morgan, during a media tour of the company’s facilities in Ikeja, Lagos said NBC is passionate about women development and empowerment and the disease is a health issue affecting their socio – economic well being in the society.

Explaining the essence of the partnership, Morgan noted that the message to be passed to women is early detection is key for survival, hence the need to create massive awareness for the disease is preventable and curable at the same time if detected early.

According to her, “guaranteeing the health of women and providing them with opportunities to reach their full potentials is critical to the productivity of families, communities and the nation at large.”
“A healthy population is a good foundation for sustainable socio – economic development in Nigeria and NBC supports and maintains that,” Morgan expressed.

Similarly in a statement, the Managing Director of NBC, Mr. Ben Langat pointed out that breast cancer is one of the diseases impacting negatively the lives and businesses of affected Nigerian women.

He therefore lamented on NBC’s concern saying, “it’s a potential threat to health of women across our value chain.”
