Nile University prepares students for successful law careers with innovative law faculty

Nile University of Nigeria has a strong Bachelor of Law (LLB) program that provides students with the skills to thrive in the country’s legal system as well as in other careers. Studying Law at Nile University provides many benefits for students.

The University’s Law Faculty possess accomplished academicians with the necessary experience to deliver a comprehensive legal education that combines academic rigour with applied, practical, and inter-disciplinary perspectives, ensuring that students develop an understanding of law in all its contexts.

In addition, the Faculty’s top-notch Moot Court— which allows students to participate in simulated court proceedings that often feature some of the country’s top legal practitioners— provides students with the ideal setting for the practical application of their theoretical knowledge. The incorporation of high-value fieldwork in the University’s Law curriculum further ensures that students are equipped with vital employability skills.

As part of their Clinical Legal Education requirements, 400 and 500 Level Law students at Nile University are required to participate in the institution’s Law Clinic, which provides a platform for them to practice Law in real-life scenarios through the provision of pro bono legal services to indigent members of the community. In addition to being skilled in the legal profession, the essence of the Law Clinic program is to imbibe a passionate drive for public interest lawyering in the University’s Law students.

Nile University’s Law Clinic is divided into the following four groups/programs (each providing interested students with unique learning experiences):

• The Pre-trial Detention and Prison Matters Group: Students in this group visit prisons to interview pre-trial detainees and facilitate access to justice for them.
• The Environmental and Sanitation Group: Students in this group visit communities and educate them on the importance of a clean environment. The primary goal of this group’s projects is to ensure that the target communities have a clean, habitable environment.
• The Freedom of Information (FoI) Group: Students in this group conduct a series of awareness campaigns that are aimed at educating their target audiences on the Freedom of Information Act, which was passed into law in 2011. The FoI Act promotes the right of citizens to ask for information.
• The Human Rights Group: Students in this group carry out various projects that are designed to educate the public on their fundamental rights and also facilitate access to justice for persons whose rights have been abused.

Nile University’s Law program is accredited by the Council of Legal Education, further underlining its quality.
