Governors of the seven Northwest states will meet in Kaduna from Wednesday, August 1 to Thursday, August 2, to brainstorm on ways of improving agriculture for enhanced food security in the country.

The planning committee of Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP) said in a statement that the governors are to attend a workshop for promoting collaboration on capacity for agricultural research and development.

It is being organised by ARDP in collaboration with the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) and other agricultural finance, development and research bodies in Nigeria.

The two-day workshop is expected to develop a matrix for partners, prioritise value chains, technologies and agribusiness pools for FARA’s activities and South-South collaboration for capacity building and innovation.

The statement, signed by its Head, Media Committee, Baba Yola Tuongo said: FARA has in a bid to develop a network to support its development programme, reached out to key African countries willing to explore options in Nigeria.

Governments of Jigawa and Oyo states have already committed to the initiative, while other institutions like the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and Bayero University, Kano (BUK), have developed agreements for the initiative.

The workshop holds at the Shehu Yar’Adua Hall, Murtala Square, Kaduna.
