Regular hand washing with water and soap key to healthy living
TOWARDS promoting global hygiene and maintaining stringent hand washing measures as a universal culture, the Centre for Health Enhancement and Social Development (CHESD), has harp on the need for all and sundry particularly persons domiciled in the Africa continent to cultivate the culture of hand-washing with a view to preventing the spread of germs as well as keep people in the region from infections and life threatening diseases.
According to CHESD, the need for the global hygiene campaign to herald this years Global Hand-washing Day (GHD) is aimed at making hand-washing a part of our national life saying, “ hand-washing with soap at critical times is a universal cultural norm gaining increasing momentum worldwide”
It further added that the Centre calls on all Nigerians to make the celebration of the GHD spectacular given our demographic strength to ensure we set a regional hand-washing record amongst African nations.
CHESD Chairman, Board of Trustees, Iria Ailendesuan and Secretary, Bamidele Olowonubi, in a statement said the main objective of the GHD is to promote hand washing, which according to it is the first line of defense against the spread of infections such as meningitis, bronchitis, hepatitis A and most type of infectious diarrhoea as well as Acute gastroenteritis.
