To appreciate hard working students, teaching and non-teaching staff of St Gregory’s College, Obalende, Lagos, the school management recently organised a Speech and Prize Giving Day to celebrate students that have performed excellently in their studies.

The event, held at the college hall, had the theme: “Discipline A Pre-requisite For Academic Excellence.”The College Administrator, Reverend Emmanuel Ayeni, said right from the school’s foundation, discipline had been inculcated into the students.

“Discipline is what we stand for, and every student that comes here knows that he has to do things the right way. Without discipline, you cannot be sound academically and socially,” he explained. He advised parents to ensure that they put their children in schools where discipline would be inculcated into them. He also advised the students to be hard working and respectful; adding that hard work does not kill; rather there is a reward for it.

Mr. Brown Oladeinde, the Guest Speaker, remarked that teachers and other non-teaching staff had exhibited much commitment and passion in ensuring that the students continue to compete favourably within the global benchmark. He said: “You have been tutored and grounded morally and academically. It is a privilege for you to pass through an institution with high quality education to become better individuals, both in character and learning. We are celebrating you today as a result of the discipline, which you have demonstrated in your academics and moral life.

“We will ensure that St. Gregory’s College remains a learning community and continues to deliver world class education through discipline, following up with global trend in raising a total and complete child.”One of the students, who won the overall best from the Junior Class, Logo Iyanuoluwa, said the secret behind his success was reading. “I make sure I read everyday, and I treat past questions with my mates. I advise fellow students to discover their own method of studying. Don’t depend on others, and always believe in yourself,” he said.
