TMC seeks peace in Turkey, deplores terrorism 

A foremost Islamic organisation, The Muslim Congress (TMC) has sought for peace to reign in Turkey while calling for an end to terrorism in the country.

TMC Amir (National President) Dr. Lukman AbduRaheem, who made this remark during Muharram Get-Together in Lagos stressed the need for a more global effort towards putting an end to terrorism, adding that Islam is a religion of peace and prohibits terror acts.

“They have existed for too long and caused so much harm and damage in many countries”, He commended the people of Turkey for backing the leadership of president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to foil the July 15 coup bid.

AbdurRaheem said:” We call for the cessation of hostilities in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen. The world should realize that these needless wars have gone on for too long with the attendant consequence of maiming and loss of thousands of lives, destruction of properties and the pollution of the environment. The United Nations, the European Union, The Arab League and the African Union should come together to mitigate and find lasting solutions to these problems”

A professor of Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Ibadan, Abdul-Hafiz Oladosu said: “The Turkish coup failed because it lacks the support of Allah and the people of Turkey. It sought to manipulate the current realities of the people of Turkey. Turkish people are content with their current leadership and that reflected in the people reaction.”

Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Hakan Cakil, who was represented by Counsellor for Religious Affairs at the Turkish embassy, Ali Kasikiriki, said the Turkish defended Erdogan- led government by turning out to the streets despite the gun fires. Kasikirik said despite the machine guns, the people resisted to defend democracy.
