
The group, in a statement by its national coordinator, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, aligning with the principles, conventions and recommendations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Nigeria’s labour laws said it was long overdue.
Sunmonu noted that the recent development was great hope for unionism in Nigeria and a clear path for productive and positive unionism that would make incessant cases of industrial disputes and disharmony a thing of the past.
“CONUA is elated to see issues that have bedevilled free association among workers in terms of being addressed by the Minister of Labour where he pointed out the need to draw the line and the ills of employers interfering in the election of union officers or preventing workers from unionising as domesticated in our labour laws.”
The group urged the government to redouble its efforts to bring about healthy and constructive unionism.
