Honouring Nigeria’s Legacy with the “Walk for Impact”

In a heartwarming celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, Revamp Initiatives hosted an outreach titled “Walk for Impact.” The event provided a rare opportunity to reflect on the nation’s history by engaging with elderly Nigerians who witnessed the birth of independence in 1960.

The team visited elderly Nigerians, capturing their reflections on the progress, struggles, and future of the country. Among them was Mr. Ikechukwu Nwatu, a professional shoemaker whose life vividly encapsulates Nigeria’s changing fortunes.

Mr. Nwatu recalled with nostalgia the optimism of the pre-independence era and expressed his frustration over the hardships that have since taken root. “Back then, there was hope,” he said. “Today, I struggle to provide for my family. The hardship has been overwhelming.”
