For many Lagosians, plying the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway was a journey that demands great mental readiness to face the inevitable, incessant and notorious gridlock caused by the presence of heavy duty trucks complimented by the bad roads which always left commuters stranded for hours unend, turning the journey of few minutes or at worst an hour into a marathon frustrating trip whose end can only be fathomed by the Divine.

Imagine the stress workers would have to go through daily, spending over 7 to 9 hours in the gridlock just to get to work, only for the same scenario to replay itself later in the day when they journey back home after a hard days job. It is incovievsble the wasteful energies exepended on this perplexing and frustrating daily endevour. One is confounded when one considers the precious and irredeemable time loss by these citizens or residents of apapa and environ on a daily basis.

We are all aware that the gridlock had persisted due to the terrible and disorganised condition of Apapa port, the concentration of Tank Farms in the area, indiscriminate parking of petroleum tankers and trailers wanting to load petroleum products from the tank farms and the racket created by persons benefiting from the chaotic situation.

While many past Governments and administrations in Lagos State have tried to address this huge menace and failed, the Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration in Lagos State has not made hidden its intention of clearing this route by putting up the all necessary measures to curtail the situation and relieve the commuters of indescribable sufferings and traffic frustrations. However, to the delight of many in the State, the troubling myth of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway has finally been dispelled and broken as the route has now been cleared of its intractable encumberancesand is now made fit for decent and comfortsble movements for road users.

On the 3rd of December 2021, the Lagos State Government announced plans to commence the removal and clearance of trucks parked indiscriminately along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, as part of efforts to restore the free flow of traffic in the axis.

True to his words, the area has been cleared and decongested, the once notorious route has been transformed to a a thoroughfare with no obstruction to free flow of traffic and vehicular movements.

For a Governor who has done much to transform the State infrastructurally, where all local government areas in the state have felt the manifest impact and the magic touch of the Sanwo-Olu led administration in Lagos State, it’s not surprising to see the wonder which has been brought into place with the decongestion of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

This is yet another promise been kept and delivered by a Governor who has now become a national phenomenon and an Icon of governance defined by immense capacity, focus and unparalleled consistency in perfomance and deliveries of infrastructure, social amenities and good governance.
