Ashok Kadadi, is the Head of Operations and General Manager, Satnam Investment Nigeria Limited. In this interview with ADEYEMI ADEPETUN, he spoke on the importance of the Nigerian market to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and its need to leverage on new technologies for growth. Excerpts.

Why is Toshiba eyeing the Nigeria market at this time?
Nigeria is a strategic market in Africa for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). So leveraging new technologies for growth has become very critical for its competitiveness.

We at Toshiba saw this opportunities and have brought in some of our innovations that are latest. These include Toshiba Multi Function Printers, MFPs. We are also launching world’s first eco-friendly Paper Reusing System that can print, store, erase images and text on the prints. Don’t waste your papers. There is a device in the machine that erases the printed text and makes it a blank paper again. You can re-use that paper up to five times. That means you cut your paper cost by 80 per cent. And this is the first time Toshiba is introducing this technology. We also have a range of products, starting from 30 PPM to 85PPM – light production machine. We have complete range of products that meet the entire requirement of the industry, in black and white as well as in colour. We are also launching Toshiba P Screen, which is a unique product for boardrooms, schools, trainings, brainstorming sections.

What technology seems to be driving this innovation?
It is a new technology. The technology is made in a way that it allows you to erase printed ink. If you don’t want to erase the text, you can keep it for up to 30 years and nothing happens to it.

What determines the job specification for this innovation you brought to Nigeria?
The printing innovation works with every certified standard printing paper.

What is the quality of your new products, considering the fact that some manufacturers have taken Nigeria as a dumping ground for inferior products?
Toshiba products are highly reliable, very efficient and also economical. The standard is very high. Apart from the new products, Toshiba is a world known brand. Toshiba has been one of the leading technology companies in the world. Toshiba is the first company to introduce laptops to the world. Toshiba is the first company to introduce DVD players to the world. And now, we are introducing Eco MFP to the whole world.

Is the product meant for a specific audience?
It is for anybody. It’s meant for all corporate users, SMEs, individual customers, professionals and anybody that uses copy printers.

Since the product is new to the Nigerian market, has your company got designated locations where people can take the machines to for repairs in the instance of any breakdown?
Yes. From the moment you buy the machine(s) from us, we look at your location and give you details of the nearest service centre to you. It could be our head office, branch offices; it could be our distributor or dealers. We have various options to access our service facilities. We also have freelance service technicians whom we have trained in the Nigeria market. We do direct marketing and email marketing to get the products across to our customers.
