Players is a romantic comedy about a group of friends who devise a series of intricate “plays” to find hook-ups. The leader of the group, Mack, is a skilled sportswriter who applies her knowledge of strategy to her dating life. However, when she unexpectedly falls for one of her targets, she begins to question her approach to relationships.

Released in February 2024 by Netflix, the comedy film is directed by Trish Sie and written by Whit Anderson. It stars Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr., Joel Courtney, Augustus Prew, Liza Koshy, Ego Nwodim, Marin Hinkle, and Tom Ellis. Going through the film, it’s fair to say that Ross M. Dinerstein and other producers outdid themselves on this one.

SOMETHING LIKE GOLD

Something Like Gold is a 2023 Nigerian film written by Adaeze Ibechukwu and directed by Kayode Kasum. The film centres on a woman who rediscovers love after being left at the altar while confronting the challenges of rebuilding her life following the seizure of her father’s wealth. The film stars Sandra Okunzuwa, Mercy Johnson Okojie, Timini Egbuson and other cast members.

MOTHER OF THE BRIDE

Mother of the Bride is a 2024 American romantic comedy film directed by Mark Waters and written by Robin Bernheim. The plot unfolds when Lana’s daughter Emma returns from London and announces that she’s getting married next month. The mother of the bride jets off to a private island for the wedding.

Things become complicated when Lana learns that the man who stole Emma’s heart is the son of the man who broke her years ago. Produced by Brad Krevoy, this romantic comedy stars Brooke Shields, Miranda Cosgrove, Chad Michael Murray and Benjamin Bratt.

LAST YEAR SINGLE

Last Year Single is a comedy romance film about three close friends who try to navigate their love life and finance, but guys would always disappoint them when they least expect it. Released in September 2024, the comedy-drama is created and directed by Omoni Oboli but written by Joy Bewaji. It’s a series- a perfect comedy for all romance series enthusiasts. It stars Omoni Oboli, Bimbo Ademoye, Mawuli Gavor, Toni Tones and other great actors. The soundtrack is by Falzthebahdguy and debuts strictly on Netflix. Fans of Omoni Oboli, you have this one!

ANYONE BUT YOU

 

Anyone But You is a romantic comedy written by Ilana Wolpert. The film is about a fiery first date that goes terribly wrong. Bea and Ben have an instant connection, but their initial spark quickly fizzles out due to a misunderstanding. Months later, their paths cross again at a destination wedding in Australia. To avoid awkward encounters, they pretend to be a couple, leading to a series of hilarious and heartwarming situations. The film was released late December 2023 and directed by Will Gluck.

It stars Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Another supporting cast includes Alexandra Shipp, Gata, Hadley Robinson, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Darren Barnet, Bryan Brown, and Rachel Griffiths.
