Asake records stardom in Idris Elba’s voice
Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake has recently teased his fans with a documentary of musical career and rise to stardom through Idris Elba’s voice.
Since breaking into the mainstream in 2022, the 30-year-old rapper and songwriter, Asake, has rapidly ascended to superstardom with a steady stream of chart-topping hits and albums. Recently, he made headlines once again by selling out London’s O2 Arena for the second time, a significant achievement that solidifies his global appeal.
The documentary
On September 23, 2024, Ololade Mi Asake shared the trailer for his new documentary on Instagram, chronicling his musical journey from humble beginnings to stardom. The documentary, narrated by award-winning British actor Idris Elba, opens with a glimpse into the inner-city Lagos neighborhood where Asake was raised.

The documentary comes on the heels of the release of Asake’s third album, Lungu Boy, which features collaborations with international superstars like Wizkid, Stormzy, Central Cee, and Ludmilla.
The title, “Lungu Boy,” loosely translates to “Ghetto boy,” a nod to Asake’s roots and his rise from obscurity to fame. Through this documentary, Asake provides a deeper understanding of his journey, from growing up in the ghetto to becoming a global music icon.
His recent O2 Arena concert, Asake was presented with two prestigious accolades by Idris Elba: an O2 Arena sold-out plaque and a BRIT Silver certification for his latest album, Work of Art. This marked Asake’s second BRIT Silver plaque, following the success of his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, which also received a silver certification in the UK.
Asake’s dominance in the UK music scene is unmatched. He has become the first Nigerian artist to have all three of his albums—Mr. Money With The Vibe, Work of Art, and Lungu Boy—top the UK Apple Music Album Chart, cementing his status as a trailblazer in the Afrobeats genre.
