Nigerian skit maker and social media influencer, Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has cleared the air on the viral claim that her online class promises to teach participants how to make ₦100 million in just 10 days.
The controversy began after a poster promoting her class surfaced online, boldly suggesting that attendees could earn ₦100 million within that period. The claim quickly stirred reactions across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the credibility of the advert.
Reacting in a video shared on her Instagram page, Ashmusy explained that the ₦100 million headline was never meant to be taken literally. Instead, she said it was designed as a catchy line to grab attention.
“I never said make 100 million in 10 days. It was just a headline, something catchy to grab people’s attention,” she said.
Her statement have been sparking conversations online, as many users continue to debate the ethics of using such bold claims to market classes. On X (formerly Twitter), one user, @NickyTonero1, commented: “You could make 100m and you still want to charge 30k per person to teach people.” Another user, @Thevictorjosh, described the advert as misleading, writing: “That’s what we call misleading ad content.”
The backlash highlights a growing scepticism among Nigerians toward online classes and influencer-led ventures. With the current economic challenges, many people are looking for legitimate ways to earn extra income, making them more cautious about offers that appear “too good to be true.”
Ashmusy, who has built a large following online through comedy skits, brand promotions, and lifestyle content, is among a wave of influencers now turning to educational classes and business mentorships as new revenue streams. But her recent experience shows how quickly audiences can react when promotional content seems exaggerated.
