A video of Oshoffa’s grandson and shepherd of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), Kunle Hamilton, cautioning young members about participating in reality shows, including the just concluded Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) season 10 edition, has stirred reactions online.
In the viral clip, the cleric said he agreed with those who believe reality shows are not a place for Christians, especially those serious about their faith.
The Guardian reports that the winner of the BBNaija season 10 edition, Imisi Ayanwale, is a member of the CCC, and Hamilton’s comments appear to be connected to reactions to her victory by members of the church.
He said, “I agree with people who said reality show is not a place for Christians. So I must cry out to young Celestials like Imisi. If you are a serious-minded Christian, a reality show that plays up your sexuality should remind you that you have a kingdom of God to pursue. Will your children and your spouse be happy? Because the internet does not forget. I urge every Celestial youth, be happy for Imisi, but don’t go that route.”
While some social media users supported his message, others disagreed, arguing that Imisi represented herself and the church well during her time on the show.
Reacting under the post, @daddysgirl_treasure said, “But she was very decent on the show, sir. She respected herself and her reputation so well. Sir, don’t worry, she will ask God for forgiveness, and God, who is the most forgiving, will forgive her.”
Another user, @fizzy_bella, added, “I totally disagree. She was decent, and they should be proud of her.”
@kasemfonabasi said, “Believers shouldn’t be watching BBN.”
@jaylegacy commented, “Many Christians will attack him for saying Christians should not support this BBN. This breed of Christians know a lot and can’t be admonished.”
@shawn22 said, “This was one woman that didn’t get distracted or even let anyone pressure her, sir.”
While some insist that reality TV contradicts the values of modesty and holiness, others believe participation in such shows can be an opportunity to positively represent their faith.
