Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has said her weight loss journey is rooted in self-love and a desire to feel healthier, not pressure to shrink.
Badmus said this in a post shared on her Instagram page on Friday, where she told her followers that the real struggle is not body size but self-hate and insecurity.
“I need you to hear this from me….being ‘fat’ is not the problem. Hating yourself is. Doubting yourself is. Believing you’re not enough is. That’s the real struggle,” she wrote.
The actress added that a person’s worth does not depend on their size, stressing that confidence and success can exist at any weight.
“Your size has never cancelled your worth. You can be confident, successful, loved, admired, and unstoppable at any size,” she added.
Badmus also advised those considering weight loss to do it from a place of love rather than shame.
“And if you choose to lose weight, let it be from a place of love….not shame. Let it be because you want to feel healthier, stronger, and happier… not because the world told you to shrink,” she wrote.
She said her experience has reinforced the importance of consistency and mindset, noting that personal change is built through daily decisions.
“My weight loss journey has taught me one powerful thing: transformation starts in the mind. I didn’t wake up one day different….I made small, consistent decisions,” she said.
Badmus urged people to respect their bodies while working towards personal goals, describing confidence as an attitude rather than a measurement.
“But listen carefully….even before the weight changes, you must love the body you’re in right now. Respect it. Thank it. Celebrate it,” she wrote.
She also thanked supporters who have encouraged her so far, saying their kindness has meant a lot.
Her message comes years after she first spoke publicly about weight loss.
In a 2020 during an interview, Badmus said she was not aiming to become slim but to remain chubby while improving her fitness.
“However, it’s not going to be a total transformation because I still want to be a chubby girl; not slim. The goal is to be chubby but sexier,” she said.
She also insisted that she was not responding to societal pressure.
“For clarity sake, I didn’t and don’t bend to societal pressure,” she added, noting that she wanted to stay healthy while keeping her identity and confidence intact.
