Bobrisky Wins ‘Best Dressed Female’ Award at Movie Premiere
Nigerian ‘transgender’ personality Bobrisky, stole the show on the red carpet at the Lagos premiere of “Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds” on Sunday, March 25th.
Bobrisky, whose birth name is Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, identifies as a female.
Not only did Bobrisky turn heads with her stunning look, but she also walked away with the night’s biggest fashion honour– Best Dressed Female.
The premiere, held at the Circle Mall in Lekki, was a star-studded affair, with Nollywood A-listers like Toyin Abraham, Mercy Aigbe, Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, and Sola Sobowale gracing the red carpet. But it was Bobrisky who captivated the crowd.
Dressed in a stunning black sequined gown, her hair styled in voluminous curls and bold black lipstick completing the look, Bobrisky walked away with the award for “Best Dressed Female” of the night with an award of 1 million Naira.
Big Brother Naija ‘Level Up’ contestant Groovy won the “Best Dressed Male” Award.
Nigeria’s law prohibits transgender identity and LGBTQ+ rights. Bobrisky’s win brought a lot of reactions from people, some of which includes Actress Dayo Amusan’s video posted on Instagram where she said:
“I was at a colleague of mine premiere yesterday, they said the best dressers are to be picked; one female and one male best dresser. Don’t get me wrong, the winner could be anyone but definitely not a crossdresser. I mean, what’s wrong with us? I don’t understand it.
“I cannot imagine the judges disrespecting every woman that was there. You had to pick a winner, a female best dressed and a male best dressed and you watered the efforts of all the women at the event by giving the best dressed female to a crossdresser. I don’t understand, what is wrong with us?
“If you feel you want to honour crossdressers, you should have created their own category instead of disrespecting women by giving a crossdresser the best dressed female award.”
Bobrisky gained recognition through her presence on social media platforms such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram.
Her journey to fame has been marked by bold fashion choices, unapologetic self-expression, and a fondness for controversy.
