If anyone says may this week not come again, they would be right. Around the world were stories that left many with tears and seeking consolation. With a recurring theme, the previous week definitely left a sour taste.

Catch up on all the trendy stories that made the week

Concert gone wrong

Over 50,000 people were in the audience as the third “Astroworld Festival” was held in Houston’s NRG Park when the crowd started pushing toward the stage as Scott was performing, triggering chaotic scenes and leaving 8 people dead. Unfortunately, even though the event had turned deadly, Scott continued to perform. This would not be the first time he would be insensitive. In 2017, he urged a concertgoer to jump from a balcony to the crowd, an act that has left the fan paralysed on the left side of his body. Meanwhile, the security guards were said to be unprepared ignored fans who cried for help.

Freedom?

20-year-old model, Entisar al-Hammadi, has become the latest woman to be sentenced by Yemen’s rebel Huthi movement for five years over “drug abuse” and “prostitution” charges, a judgement condemned by rights groups. Entisar was arrested in February at a checkpoint while on her way to a photoshoot in the capital, Sanaa. According to her defence, Hammadi’s popularity on social media, where she has thousands of followers, was the real reason behind her arrest. Born to an Ethiopian mother and Yemeni father, Hammadi has posted dozens of pictures online in traditional costume, jeans or leather jacket, both with and without an Islamic headscarf.

Eternals

Following the removal of the new Marvel superhero film Eternals from cinema schedules, it appears that Nigeria may have joined the list of countries to ban the superhero film over a same-sex kissing scene. In a controversial scene, actors, Brian Tyree Henry and Haaz Sleiman share a passionate kiss. This scene has sparked global controversy, with countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait banning the film after Disney reportedly refused to cut the scene. Recall that Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill (SSMPA), prohibits the airing of same-sex content in media. Meanwhile, the National Film Video Censors Board (NFVCB), maintains a zero-tolerance for gay content in Nigeria and is yet to comment on the film’s probable ban.

Not again

It was a sad moment for Nigerians, especially Taiwo Odukoya, the senior pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, as his wife, Nomthi, was declared dead from cancer.  The 47-year-old South African, according to her husband, “battled cancer for the better part of two years”. They had been married for 11 years.  “The truth is, at one point in our lives, we all will have to say goodbye. So for now, till we meet again in glory, Goodbye Nomthi,” he wrote in part on his Instagram page. Pastor Odukoya’s first wife, Bimbo Odukoya, was one of the victims of the 2005 Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145 crash. May his heart be consoled.

Sexiest man alive

American actor, Paul Rudd has been adjudged 2021 Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine. The 52-year-old actor who was put through a series of tests was declared winner after he passed the “humility” test. The actor is known for his roles in “Friends” and “Ant-Man”. After passing the series of sexiness tests on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Rudd poured a gallon of water on his head to show he is “drowning in sexiness.” He told the magazine that he will be getting a business card made in honour of this (who wouldn’t?). What do you think?
