Comedian Chris Rock has spoken on the slap he received from Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards (2022 Oscars) for the first time since the incident.

Refusing to press charges against Smith, Rock hasn’t addressed the issue, and it’s most likely because he’s still processing what happened.

Kicking off his new Boston standup show, the comedian briefly addressed the 2022 Oscars incident for the first time, following a standing ovation from the crowd.

He asked, “How was your weekend?”

Before joking, “I don’t have a lot of s*** to say about that, so if you came here for that.”

“I had written a whole show before this weekend. I’m still processing what happened, so at some point, I’ll talk about that s***. It’ll be serious. It’ll be funny, but right now, I’m going to tell some jokes.”

After which, he resumed his performance at his Ego Death Tour.

Ticket sales for Rock’s tour increased after the 2022 Oscars, and he sold out both Wednesday shows in Bostom.

The comedian, who is currently on his “Ego Death Tour,” then resumed his performance. Ticket sales for the tour have increased since the Oscars, with both of Wednesday’s shows in Boston selling out.

On the other hand, Will Smith had addressed the incident first at the Oscars and on social media, where he apologised to Chris Rock for the first time.

However, that’s not the end of the issue.

TMZ reports that The Academy is currently considering sanctions directed at Smith over the incident.

The Academy, in its statement, also noted that contrary to public opinion, Smith had been asked to leave the Oscars after receiving his award, which the actor refused.

“Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognise we could have handled the situation differently.”

“Consistent with the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, as well as California law, Mr Smith is being provided at least 15 days’ notice of a vote regarding his violations and sanctions, and the opportunity to be heard beforehand by means of a written response.”

The Board also noted that Smith’s punishment would be decided on at their next meeting on April 18, and it could include suspension, expulsion or other sanctions permitted by their bylaws.
