Coldplay has announced that they’ll be releasing their final album in 2025.

Speaking to BBC Radio 2, the band’s frontman Chris Martin revealed that there is an end in sight for new music from the group.

“Will there come a time when Coldplay stop?” Whiley asked Martin.

“Well I know I can tell you, our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin said. “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things, but the Coldplay catalog, as it were, finishes then.”

While this is not the first Martin has spoken about the band’s retirement, it is however the first time he has given fans a fixed date.

Previously, during an interview on Absolute Radio alongside bandmate Jonny Buckland, the musician said he believed 12 albums would be the stopping point for the band.

“I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue, but I think we will always want to play live together,” he told host Andy Bush.

Martin further noted that the band would do something similar to the Rolling Stones.

“It will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late ’70s,” he said. “That will be wonderful, if anybody wants to come.”

This news comes as a surprise for many as the band has been together for 25 years. The band was formed in 1997 after Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, and Martin met at University College, London.

In 2000, Coldplay released their first album, Parachutes in 2000, and since then, they have released nine studio albums and have worked with numerous artists, including Beyoncé and BTS.

Every Coldplay album has gone No.1, selling more than 100 million copies.

Coldplay is gearing up for their first international tour in several years scheduled for 2022. Their first stop is Inglewood, California on January 15.
