Dolly Parton Receives $100M Charity Donation From Jeff Bezos

Dolly Parton, legendary singer and philanthropist has received a $100 million award from Jeff Bezos, the billionaire creator of Amazon, to donate to her favorite charities.

The “Bezos Courage & Civility Award” is given to leaders who “pursue solutions with courage and civility and the “Jolene” singer has been chosen as the newest recipient. The money goes to preferred charities of their choice.

The owner of Blue Origin and his longterm partner, television reporter Lauren Sanchez, presented the astounding prize on Friday.

“Jeff [Bezos] and I are so proud to share that we have a new Bezos Courage and Civility Award winner — a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work,” Bezos’ longtime partner, Lauren Sanchez, posted on Instagram alongside a video of their speech before awarding the grant to the legendary star.

“We can’t wait to see all the good that you’re going to do with this $100 million award, @DollyParton.”

In a video clip from the ceremony posted online, the 76-year-old singer-songwriter said “Wow! Did you say $100 million?”

“I think people who are in a position to help should put their money where their heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money,” she added.

Parton, a longstanding activist and benefactor, gave $1 million to the vaccine research projects at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during the coronavirus outbreak. Her donations helped fund the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

She has also started several nonprofit organizations, such as the Dollywood Foundation, which aims to fight poverty and promote education. Later, she started the Imagination Library, a program that gives kids access to books all across the world.
