93 Days; A True Story Of Nigeria’s Battle Against Ebola Unveils Cast

It is important we tell our story our own way.

93 day is a true story of Nigeria’s battle against Ebola. The press conference which was held at the Terra Hall, Terra Kulture , V.I, Lagos had the sole aim of unveiling the international and local cast for the movie. As well as their experience and motivation for being a part of the 93 Days movie project.

Present  to speak at the event was Gideon Okeke,  Keppy Ekpeyong,  Bimbo Akintola,  Dotun Olakunri,  Tim Reid, Steve Gukas, Bolanle Austen- Peters, Pemon Rami and Paul S. Rowlston.

Mr Pemon Rami, a renowned American Theatre and Filmmaker and the Director of African American Museum in Chicago, with credits like The Blue Brothers and Of Boys And Men is one of the producers of the movies and he is the first speaker, he speaks of the impact of Ebola in Nigeria and the tremendous and courageous effort of the Nigerians to stop the spread of the virus in time. The story was so important to tell, because it could have impacted the world. It is a Nigerian story to tell and a world story to hear.  He thanks everyone involved in the production of 93 days and says he knows everybody would be proud of what it represents.

Mr Dotun Olakunri co-produced A Place In The Stars and also a producer of 93 Days spoke about the origin of this project, it  started in November, and it is important we tell this Nigerian story to the world in our own way, it is about the heroes that collectively avoided the disaster that was upon us.  Even as the story was told in a poetic way, this is one positive story about Nigeria and we should be proud of it.

Mrs Bolanle Austen-Peters, of BAP Productions, the makers of the Award winning Saro,The musical and also a producer of 93 Days said she was approached by Steve and Dotun to produce this movie, she got emotional reading the script and it is important we tell our story, most of our stories project negativity. We are telling our story with our resources not the other way round and with the support of our American brothers.

Steve Gukas the Director of award winning movie A Place In The Stars talks about how the growth of the project,  it has been inspiring. The idea was to make a film that could travel well internationally,  one that makes us feel proud as Nigerians. This film not only entertains, it also elevates the level of self confidence and self worth. The kind of people involved in this project just enlightens the hand of God in this, because largely God loves Nigeria.  93 days promotes international values and it is a very important project for Nigeria.

Sponsors spoke about their proud involvement in the 93 days project. The voice loud and clear from the sponsors is that great things that can be achieved when Nigerians in their diversity cone together to stand as one and support a cause.

Paul S. Rowlston said he was approached by a Nigerian to be involved in the story that changed the perspectives of Nigerians worldwide. The Nigerian perception changed and he is proud to be a part of  a story that is changing it.

More members of the cast and members of the crew were introduced.

Moving to the cast of the movie, Danny Glover says he felt so deeply proud to be a part of this movie, he plays the role of Dr Benjamin Ohiare, it speaks to the celebration of all that is Nigerian. He comes from a generation where he felt like it was their responsibility to connect with their ancestors and telling their truth. He honours the like of Harry Belafonte and all who tried to tell he African story. He encourages people everywhere in Africa to embrace the possibilities of the great continent and believe that we can do this.

Tim Reid plays the role of a representative from the Lagos State Ministry of Health (You would view their important role in the movie) he talks of the new machines of story telling, and how your life can change with a phone call or email. He is proud to be a part of this, because the whole world is watching from the shores with this project. This project is important and he is so proud to be a part if it and hopes to make more films with and in Nigeria.

Bimbo Akintola plays the role of Dr. Stella Ameyo Adadevoh says it’s extremely important telling our stories celebration of our achievements, she believes we should be. She plays the lead role and she is honoured to be a part of this. She requested one minute silence in honour of Dr Adadevoh and she is grateful and respect the part she has been given.

Gideon Okeke plays  Dr. Morris of First Consultant Hospital, he says it’s a rare privilege to be on this project, it is a huge responsibility playing the role. He thanks everyone for giving him the chance to be in this movie,  it’s is one way to start pushing for a better future
