The MasterChef Nigeria kitchen served up plenty of excitement on White Apron Day as contestants tackled an Afro-Italian challenge that tested their creativity, technique and composure under pressure.
Although no contestant faced elimination, the stakes remained high with the coveted Dish of the Day title and an Ooni pizza oven up for grabs.
The home cooks had 90 minutes to prepare two dishes an Italian pizza and a pasta reimagined with distinctly Nigerian flavours. From perfecting pizza dough to balancing bold local spices with Italian classics, the challenge demanded both innovation and precision.
“The dough is the foundation of every great pizza,” the judges stressed throughout the cook, reminding contestants that even the best toppings could not rescue a poorly made base.
The cook was not without drama. Isabella had a tense moment with the pizza oven, while Favy also battled a flare-up at her station before receiving assistance from Chef Stone. Later, Favy’s pasta suffered another setback when she served undercooked mussels, though the judges praised the overall flavour profile of her dish.
Chef Eros’ trademark removal of his glasses—a gesture contestants have come to dread—signalled his disappointment with the dishes presented by David and Isabella.
The day’s biggest triumph belonged to Fads, whose pizza and pasta earned glowing reviews from the judges. Describing her dishes as “restaurant-ready,” “classy,” “elegant” and “beautiful,” the panel rewarded her with a standing ovation of praise, while Chef Eros affectionately dubbed her “Fabulous Fads.”
“I think we’ve found ‘Fabulous Fads,’” Chef Eros remarked after tasting her dishes, applauding the confidence and refinement she brought to the challenge.
Fads claimed the Dish of the Day honours, walked away with the Ooni pizza oven and cemented her status as one of the competition’s strongest contenders.
With White Apron Day now over, the competition enters a more intense phase. Next week’s Black Apron challenge will see the Top 4 battle for just three places in the semi-finals, with one contestant set to leave the competition as the race for the ₦73 million grand prize intensifies.
MasterChef Nigeria airs Sundays at 7 p.m. on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, with repeat broadcasts on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
