The Nigerian box office experienced a major shake-up over the weekend (February 14–16) as Captain America: Brave New World dominated the charts with a record-breaking opening, raking in ₦137.5 million.
According to a report on Monday by the Box Office via their x page, Nollywood also had a strong showing with Reel Love, which pulled in ₦99.3 million in its opening weekend.
The romantic drama’s impressive start cements its position as a major local contender in a market often dominated by Hollywood releases.

“Little drops of water make a mighty ocean, and every single one of you has been a part of this incredible wave! Reel Love has shattered records at the box office, and it’s all thanks to your unwavering support—every ticket bought, every share, every cheer. This is OUR victory,” producer Timini Egbuson said in an Instagram post on Monday.
Meanwhile, Summer Rain continued its solid run in its second weekend, adding ₦16.3 million to bring its total earnings to ₦41.4 million.
Despite entering its tenth week in cinemas, ELJ remains a box office powerhouse. The historical epic brought in another ₦13.2 million, pushing its total earnings to a staggering ₦1.866 billion.
Bukola Ogunsola’s Something About the Briggs held its ground in its third week with ₦12.5 million, bringing its cumulative earnings to ₦68.9 million.
Another new entry, Chhava, made a notable impact with a ₦10.5 million opening. While its numbers are more modest compared to Captain America and Reel Love, the film’s unique storyline has sparked curiosity among cinema-goers.
2025 off to a strong start
The Nigerian box office has been seeing a steady recovery, with February proving to be a strong month for both international and domestic films.
Analysts predict that Nollywood’s upcoming releases could further shake up the rankings, especially as audiences continue to support locally made content.
