Nollywood actor, Olusegun Akinremi, popularly known as Chief Kanran, has died in Lagos, with colleagues saying his last screen appearance was in Femi Adebayo’s film Seven Doors.
The veteran actor, who would have turned 70 in September, passed away on Friday in a Lagos hospital after a brief illness.
His death has thrown the movie industry into mourning, as tributes continue to pour in from fellow actors and fans.
Femi Adebayo, reacting to the news, said the coincidence of Chief Kanran’s final role and the title of the film was heartbreaking.
“He played in Seven Doors, and now it feels like life mirrored art. It’s painful and shocking. Nobody thought it would be his last act,” he wrote in a tribute.
Chief Kanran, who made his mark first in Yoruba theatre before building a name in Nollywood, was widely celebrated for his strong voice, versatility, and unique ability to interpret diverse roles.
Femi Adebayo added, “Chief Kanran may have walked through the last door, but his voice and artistry will never be silenced.”
