There is no disputing the major role films and television series play in setting fashion trends, from the incredible black evening dress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s to the yellow plaid suit in Clueless.

Film/television series has proven to be a notable fashion force, predicting and showcasing trends that will exist for decades.

Can we let you in on a little secret? A medium people mostly seek inspiration from to dictate their style and taste is film/television series. People tend to copy outfits worn by their favorite characters, eventually developing their style.

One of our many unconventional 2022 goals for you, our beautiful readers, is to help you discover a style that accurately reflects your personality. This is why we listed five film/television series suggestions that would guide you on your style journey.

Grown-ish

Looking for college and youthful style inspiration? Two words: Zoey Johnson.

The costume design and styling in this freeform hit series is breathtaking and exhibits an ultra-modern take on fashion. And please, don’t get us started on the hairstyles. It’s a must-watch because not only does it offer amazing and beautiful street style inspiration, but the relatability of these characters is incredible. It stars Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Chloe, and Hailey Bailey.

“Simple but yet stunning” is the watchword used in styling the characters in this film. The clothing options of the characters in this film make it look realistic, and the use of beautiful bold colors reflects the bright and playful setting built around each scene.

Before you watch this film, prepare to root for Rebecca Bloomwood, who has one major problem in her life; she loves to shop (like we all don’t). This lands her in a pile of debt, jeopardizing her new job as a finance columnist, romantic relationship with her boss, and friendship with her roommate.

The Penthouse

The biased award for best K-drama series goes to Penthouse. In addition to being unable to get over the incredible clothes worn throughout the episodes, you might also find yourself secretly screaming, “skincare routine, please.”

The fashion scene in this series screams two words: elegance and sophistication. Two major eye-catching style details of this series are the well-structured layering of clothes and the depiction of gender-neutral outfits.

The popular K-drama series, featuring the talents of Eugene, Kim So-Yeon, and Lee Ji-Ah, centers on the fictional lives of the wealthy residents of Hera Palace, one of the most luxurious residential buildings in Korea. It showcases how each resident lives around the web of lies, secrets, and betrayal that exist among them.

The Devil wears Prada

The style game in this film is versatile and very sophisticated, especially for the year it was made, 2006. A favorite scene has to be a montage in the film where they show the main character after her makeover, strutting on the streets of New York in various stunning outfits. There is also the style game of our gorgeous supposed villain, Miranda Priestly, who embodied the true meaning of fashionista.

The punk rock fashion outfits in this film are literally to die for. Have you ever had your jaw drop upon sighting a dress? Well, there might be a lot of it during the scenes where Cruella upstages the Baroness. From the beautiful vintage jacket with pins, chains, rosettes, and epaulets to the dress with the longest train made from thrash (literally), the possibility of you screaming and trying hard not to shed a tear of pure fashion joy seems feasible.

The hit live-action Disney film sees the rise of a young, clever, and creative girl called Estella, who hopes to be a famous fashion designer but is faced with a series of challenges and struggles that influence her growth into one of the most beloved and fashionable villains in history.
