Guardian Life Weekly Catchup
Last week, everyone was seemingly dragged for any and everything. From fashion to relationships, investments and politics, we had enough drama to keep us interested every day. Here are some of the top stories that caught our eye last week:
Everybody Gets A Divorce!
Just last week, we wrote about how infidelity was the theme of September, and we’re only a few days in, but October seems to have picked its theme, and that’s divorce.
It seems like everyone is getting a divorce, well not everyone, but many Hollywood favourite couples announced their separation within the last week.
Sitcom favourite Tia Mowry filed for a divorce from her husband of 14 years, Cory Hardrict, citing irreconcilable differences, requesting joint physical and legal custody of their kids and removing spousal support.
It didn’t take long for news of Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen’s possible divorce to break the internet as both of them allegedly hired divorce lawyers after months of living separately.
Finally, Miguel and his wife Nazanin Mandi have also decided to call it quits once again, and this time for real, after announcing their separation in September 2021 and getting back together in February.
One thing we know, something’s in the air this October, and it just might be divorce.
Ye Blows Hot!
Now before you say AGAIN! You should know we’re just as tired as you are, and it seems everyone is. Kanye West has received strong criticism after his Yeezy SZN 9 lineup included a “White lives Matter” shirt and having Bob Marley’s granddaughter and Lauryn Hill’s daughter Selah Marley model the shirt.
Vogue Global Fashion Editor Gabriella Karefa Johnson made no attempt to hide her criticism, and this turned Kanye’s well known fury on her as he took to Instagram to not only criticise her opinions but also her style, causing many others, including Supreme creative director Tremaine Emory, Vogue and model Gigi Hadid to all take a stand against him.
And for some major tea, Emory revealed that despite Ye referring to late Virgil Abloh as his best friend after his death, Kanye has spoken so much ill about the man, which explains why he wasn’t invited to the first private funeral and wasn’t allowed to speak at Abloh’s public funeral.
Typically when Nollywood actress Joke Silva makes the news, its not usually for criticism, but this time, the actress has come under fire for throwing her support behind APC presidential candidate Tinubu. While other celebrities like PSquare have publicly supported candidates of their choice, Silva’s stance should come as no surprise to others especially considering the relationship she and her family has had with the APC government.
Our advice is to vote wisely and vote right, don’t count favours; instead, count what this country needs and deserves in terms of leadership.
Kim Kardashian received a $1.3million fine from the SEC after failing to disclose she was paid to promote a crypto asset, EthereumMax, on Instagram. In conclusion, you probably shouldn’t e listening to influencers when it comes to investments.
