It defies logic that the world’s most populous Black nation and one of the world’s biggest exporters of crude oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) has spent the better part of the last six decades struggling to generate enough electricity to keep the lights on, but that is Nigeria’s current reality. Since the start of 2022, there have been countless collapses of the national grid such that any month without grid collapse is seen as an act of God.

As is often the case, the situation is far more dire than the various drivers would have you believe. Energy analysts and experts have decried darkness all over the land and warned that no amount of optics and PR could whitewash our power problems.

In recent times, the rise and spread of solar as an alternative supply have generated a lot of buzz and conversation. Many are sceptical, but as with new technologies and innovation, there have been improvements, and now solar, and home battery storage are seen as the future for energy management. This gives control back to individual households enabling the homeowner to store, use and manage their electricity usage as never before

EcoFlow, the company behind the world’s first portable home battery with an expandable ecosystem, the world’s fastest 1.2kWh portable power station charging technology (Delta) and the widely acclaimed integrated solution for power generation, storage, and usage has said its mission is to dethrone Nigeria’s power struggles and bring relief to Nigeria and Nigerians.

Since 2017, EcoFlow has provided portable power stations, home backup power, and eco-friendly off-grid solutions in over 100 markets, including the US, Japan, China, Australia and across Europe, to reinvent how the world accesses energy.

Ecoflow’s solution is boosted by the fact that Nigeria is a consistently sunny country where most areas get roughly seven hours of sunlight a day. This ensures that any battery system would have a regular fuel supply to maintain its energy levels.

In July 2021, the EcoFlow Smart Home Ecosystem broke the Kickstarter record for the most funded tech project on the crowdfunding platform before being named as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 best inventions of 2021.

“Because load shedding and power insecurities continue to be a critical issue for residents and businesses in Nigeria, we are thrilled to introduce EcoFlow’s technology and experience building thoughtfully designed, smart and powerful energy storage products that effectively address the power needs of Nigerians and communities around the world,” said Joy Wu, Regional Leader at EcoFlow.

“Our green technology aims to relieve global users from power insecurities in Africa and around the world. At EcoFlow, we believe that access to power is a fundamental right for every human being, and our vision is to put power in people’s hands,” added Wu.

EcoFlow’s range of renewable portable power stations offers reliable, quiet, and clean power as an alternative to traditional, outdated sources. The first products from the Smart Home Ecosystem to be revealed in Nigeria soon are RIVER Pro, DELTA and DELTA Max.

The RIVER Pro is a flexible and portable device with a quiet operation that does not run on gasoline or fuel. Efficiency is maximised as power can be stored and consumed when needed, an AC output of 600W, a base capacity of 720Wh expandable to 1440Wh with an extra battery, and fast charging powered by EcoFlow’s X-Stream technology.

No emission of toxic fumes makes the RIVER Pro safe to use both indoors and outdoors, with a price of 30% less than that of regular gasoline-powered generators.

Since its launch, DELTA has been EcoFlow’s best-seller, featuring a first-of-its-kind two-way inversion technology that converts AC to DC power and vice versa with a 6x AC Outlet. DELTA charges safely from 0-80% in under an hour with the X-Stream Fast Charge.

A single DELTA Max unit packs a 2kWh capacity that is expandable up to 6kWh with DELTA Max Smart Extra Batteries, X-Stream technology, and the ability to power most home appliances, including heavy-duty devices up to 3400W. In addition, with fast charging, DELTA Max charges up safely and rapidly from 0-100% in just 1.8 hours and can serve as a home backup during a power outage.

EcoFlow will soon introduce its full line of innovative energy-efficient products to Nigeria to revolutionise homes and power businesses across the country.
