Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he built his music career from scratch without any industry godfather or powerful backers.
The singer made this statement on Tuesday after hitting over 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify, his highest ever on the platform.
According to Davido, his success came purely from God’s grace, hard work, and the love of his loyal fans, not from co-signs or endorsements from music gatekeepers.
He wrote on social media, “No co-sign, built from the ground up! Just God, good music and the best fans! I Appreciate you guys fr [for real]! Who wan even CO-SIGN big man like me ?? Hmmm another angle sha :five:”
Davido’s latest album, 5ive, released on April 18, 2025, has been a chart-topping success. The 17-track project has pulled in millions of streams and sits comfortably at the top of Afrobeats rankings across platforms.
With multiple hits and sold-out international shows, Davido has become one of Nigeria’s biggest music exports, showing that talent, determination, and fan support can push an artiste to global fame even without a powerful industry network behind them.
