Nigerian singer and songwriter, Chike Osebuka, popularly known as Chike, has described marriage as “a stupid step,” saying he has no plans to settle down anytime soon.

The 32-year-old artiste made the remark during an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, on the WithChude podcast, where he spoke about his personal views, career journey, and struggles before fame.

Chike said, “In fact, I think it’s a stupid step to get married. That’s my opinion. I’m not saying this applies to actors, but if you’re a music artiste, especially if your career is built around women being attracted to you, it starts to look like a crime. That same attraction cannot continue.”

Although he has become famous for his soulful love songs, the Boo of the Booless crooner explained that his happiness is tied to financial stability rather than romance.

He noted, “For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even canal, I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money.”

The singer also reflected on how he embraced music as a career after his university education, admitting that he never imagined he would take it up professionally.

“I would say maybe right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living. I won’t say I knew before, to be honest, because I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he said.

Chike further revealed that he faced financial struggles in the early days of his career and had to venture into acting for about two years to survive.

It will be recalled that in 2022, the singer disclosed that he had never said the words “I love you” in his life because the phrase made him feel vulnerable.

“I get that feeling that if I say it, my bolz would shrink and disappear. Happy I get to sing it though,” he said at the time.
