Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’ Takes Billboard Hot 100 No.1 Spot
Lizzo’s single “About Damn Time” has taken the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.
“About Damn Time” moved up one place rising from No. 2 making it Lizzo’s second Hot 100 lead single after her 2019 single “Truth Hurts” dominated the chart for seven week starting from September 2019.
“About Damn Time” is from her new LP, “Special” which holds the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Lizzo’s latest project “Special” featured production from Ricky Reed, Mark Ronson, Max Martin, and Benny Blanco.
The 12-track album includes her controversial single “Grrls” which featured ableist lyrics. Recall that back in June, Lizzo came under fire after fans called her out for the lyrics “Hold my bag, bitch, hold my bag / Do you see this s—? I’m a sp-z”
Responding, Lizzo unveiled a new version of the song that replaced the lyrics with “hold me back.”
Addressing fans in a statement she wrote “It’s been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song ‘GRRRLS.’ Let me make one thing clear: I never want to promote derogatory language.”
“As a fat Black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I overstand the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally).”
“I’m proud to say there’s a new version of GRRRLS with a lyric change. This is the result of me listening and taking action. As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world.”
