Nigeria has emerged as the leading African country on the Shazam Global 200 chart over the past year, according to a new report by Apple Music highlighting the growing influence of African music worldwide.
Between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, over 200 African artists made appearances on the Shazam Global Top 200 chart, with 12 songs from the continent breaking into the Global Top 10. Nigeria dominated this list, with multiple tracks resonating with listeners across the globe.
Among the Nigerian songs to reach the top 10 were Davido’s ‘With You’ featuring Omah Lay, Faceless & Serøtonin’s ‘Venus’, Shallipopi’s ‘Laho’, and Fido’s ‘Joy Is Coming’.
Rising Nigerian singer Chella, whose track ‘My Darling’ gained traction through Shazam, described the platform as a turning point in his career.
“Shazam has been an important music tool for me, helping me connect with people around the world and letting them discover my sound,” he told Apple Music. “‘My Darling’ got picked up by many on Shazam, and that pivoted my career shift positively.”
Ghanaian-American artist Moliy, whose song ‘Shake It to the Max’ also reached global audiences, shared a similar sentiment.
“It’s been incredible to see how far ‘Shake It to the Max’ has travelled,” she said. “To know that people all over the world are hearing the song, pulling out their phones to find out who I am–that’s wild! It’s taken my music to places I’ve never been and helped me connect with fans from the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe. I’m so grateful.”
Shazam, which boasts over 300 million monthly users and more than 100 billion song recognitions globally, has become an essential tool for music discovery. Its ability to highlight emerging talent and predict musical trends continues to reshape the global music landscape.
