Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwatope Omolara Savage, better known as Tiwa Savage, has said beginning her music career in her 30s was a major blessing that helped her stay grounded and focused.

She disclosed this during an interview with Joey Akan on Afrobeats Intelligence, which surfaced online on Saturday, where she spoke about fame, age and how maturity shaped her choices in the music industry.

According to the “Somebody’s Son” crooner, she was already mentally and emotionally mature before dropping her first single, which made it easier to handle the pressures of stardom.

Savage said, “And for me, I personally think because I didn’t start at a young age, I had years of building a foundation of me as a person. Because my first single, I think I was in my 30s. Yeah. I’m not a kid at that point. So I wasn’t fazed by the fame and money, like a lot of people…”

She also explained that her journey through the industry has been intentional, as she had already seen many artistes rise and fall before her breakthrough.

“So when my time came, it was just like, I know this, I know even last a year, two years. So I was very intentional in like making this sustaining a lasting career. So I think me starting at such a late age was also a blessing,” she added.

Savage, who recently made her Hollywood debut on Amazon Prime with the film Water & Garri, also admitted that she once considered lying about her age just to fit into the industry’s expectations.

“That was that’s very, very, very. I mean, a lot of people was not that smart to change my passport. I should have. I should have lied and told y’all I was like 22. You would have believed it. Yeah, we would have,” she said.

Tiwa Savage has grown to become one of Nigeria’s most celebrated female artistes, with several awards and international collaborations to her name.
