Gospel singer and former Kennis Music artiste, Kenny Saint Brown, has said that late rapper Dagrin did not ask God for long life in his verse on her 2010 prayer-themed song, “Turn Me Around”.
She made this known during an interview on the Haha Podcast, which premiered on YouTube on Wednesday, May 15, 2025.
According to her, Dagrin’s verse in the song was filled with requests for fame and material success, but he never mentioned long life.
“The song ‘Turn Me Around’ is a prayer request. He also came with his prayer request, if you listen to rap song from the beginning to the end it’s prayers.”
“When he died I cried, because the prayer requests on that (Turn Me Around) song God did it for him. And I asked God what happened, He said go and listen to his Prayer Request, there is no long life there. He just said make I blow, ‘Mo fe ma gun Bentley,’ let everybody know me worldwide, and God granted everything.”
KSB explained that while the rapper asked for stardom, wealth, and global recognition, the absence of a plea for long life stood out to her in hindsight.
She added that the same song brought her international exposure and opened many doors.
“I also got everything. It is the song that is taking me all over the world,” she said.
Dagrin, whose real name was Olayitan Olanipekun Oladapo, died on April 22, 2010, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), after he was involved in a car crash around Mushin, Lagos.
He reportedly ran into a stationary truck around 3 am and was left unconscious before being rescued by police officers. He remained in critical condition before he passed on days later.
He was 25 years old at the time of his death and was celebrated for his street-centric rap style and indigenous Yoruba lyrics. His song “Pon Pon Pon” became a national hit and cemented his place as one of Nigeria’s most respected hip-hop voices.
