The Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture will partner with TIGOLF Travel, to raise awareness of the significance of culture and the arts.

This was disclosed by the CEO of, LSAC, Mr Idowu Johnson, who said that the day aims to create awareness of the importance of theatrical arts, how theatrical performances have played an essential part in the area of fun, and the improvements that theatre has made over the years.

Every year on March 27th, World Theatre Day is celebrated worldwide to promote the art of theatre and its significance to society. The International Theatre Institute (ITI), which is affiliated with UNESCO, established this annual observance in 1961.

The day is marked by various theatre-related events such as performances, workshops, and seminars, allowing theatre communities to exhibit their work and raise awareness about the value of theatre. This occasion serves as an encouragement for people to participate in this art form.

According to Mr Idowu the play, written by Yinka Folahan and directed by Tolu Fagbure, would be staged at the Lagos Theatre, Igando, on the day
Moreover, the ITI chooses an eminent theatre personality annually to deliver a message commemorating the event. This message is translated into more than 50 languages and shared with theatre communities globally.

World Theatre Day not only promotes theatre but also highlights its role in cultural exchange, peace, and mutual understanding between nations. It emphasizes the importance of theatre in building social cohesion and community.

Overall, World Theatre Day is a celebration of theatre’s diversity and richness while recognizing its vital role in our lives.

He said the theme for this year’s celebration is “Theatre and a Culture of Peace,” adding that there would be a play titled “The King Must Die” by troupes of LSCAC to commemorate the day.
