Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has said that no amount of government money can impress him.

In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, the “Calm Down” hitmaker expressed his unshakable stance on the issue.

“Alot of things have been held down by the government and they have started to understand that they are not as influential… I would say, we are the ones (celebrities) that have the real influence on the youth.

“And a lot of times they have to bring us close. Some might have us close for their agendas but it is your decision to stand with the agenda. There is no amount of money the government wants to give me that I would say Whaoh! no government money can freak me out.

“I have said in a lot of songs that I have started making lots of money than politicians.
“I feel like with the influence that I have, we are now at the point we can tell them that you are not doing your job. If I am seated to a governor, I would whisper to his ear,” he stated.

Following the meteoric rise of his hit single “Calm Down,” Rema has consistently asserted that he belongs among the top echelon of Afrobeats.

On the show, Rema also addressed the skepticism surrounding his claims.

He explained that some people may be hesitant to acknowledge his status due to his relatively short time in the industry.

“I think the success came too quickly that some people wish I didn’t get it too quick,” Rema said.

He pointed to his record-breaking achievements, such as the success of “Calm Down,” as evidence of his talent.

“You know when they want to give you respect and you have to be 10 years in the game, I think my career didn’t play according to those rules,” Rema added.

When asked if he believes he deserves a spot alongside the “Afrobeats Big 3” – Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy – Rema responded, “With respect to the OGs, but I am one of them…”
