Cases are not always based on truth, but on what the law says, hence, morally you could think you are right, and the obvious may be what you have hoped for. But if the law says otherwise based on evidence and presentations,  justice could go the opposite direction.

Finally Nigerians have heard the cases at the tribunal, an outcome have been decided, and though this outcome is expected to be challenged at the Supreme Court, which has become the norms in the Nigerian political space, the dragging may continue for another year, while we will at the moment continue to acknowledge the fact that the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today is Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

From Celebrities reactions to lawyers input, and some citizens dismay, and to the call off, of the NLC two days warning strike. While others celebrated the pronouncements, surely some will not, and lot is expected to still go ahead in the coming days.

Davido had even said, “Election is based on who rugged pass” and to Area Fada-1 (Charley Boy) and ardent follower of the Peter Obi campaign has also suggested that Abuja should be occupied.

Therefore in this article, we take a look at the winners and losers of the tribunal judgement and its long-term effect on the political space of the country.

So who are the winners and losers of this pronouncement, although the term “Winners” and “Losers” as referred to here does not necessarily means they lost or any other personal meanings, it’s just a depiction of the outcome and how better they could have prepared for subsequent years.

WINNERS
PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU

Once more President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has come out victorious more than a 100 days after his declaration as president of the federal Republic of Nigeria by the INEC; and even though it is expected that every election in Nigeria most times usually end at the tribunal and then extended to the Supreme Court seven times out of a ten.

However he was quick to send his message across from India, and in summary President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said, after the judgement of the Petition Tribunal, promises to work hard for Nigeria. He wants to unite the nation and make it peaceful and prosperous. He thanks the tribunal for their professionalism and commitment to the rule of law. Tinubu believes this shows Nigeria’s growth in democracy. He encourages other candidates to support the government for the well-being of Nigerians. Tinubu thanks Nigerians for the mandate and pledges to exceed their expectations with hard work.

RENO OMOKRI

Reno Omokri is a card carrying member of the PDP, so what business has he been on? Well to the users of the “X” social media, Reno Omokri has become a force to reckon with, while cashing out big time, at the same time, the former aide of the president Goodluck Jonathan, he has vehemently being at a war with various Peter Obi supporters, usually tagged “Obidients” he has recently clashed with Arise TV personnel and broadcaster Oseni Rufai as it concerns the allegations of Tinubu not having any certificates about his Chicago university saga.

In his recent tweet after the judgement Reno wrote;
“There Would Have Been A Second Civil War If Peter Obi Had Won Yesterday.
If Peter Obi had won the #NigerianElections2023 , or at the Presidential Election Petition Court, there would have been a civil war in Nigeria. Not may. Would. Why? Because he and his Obidients were just too arrogant and were already recreating, and would have further recreated the events that led up to the Nigerian Civil War. Let me explain:

During the elections, there was nothing they did not do, including cyberbullying, threatening, abusing, insulting, name-calling, accusing, hounding, targeting, ganging up, mocking, caricaturing, and harassing anyone who refused to support them. I did not say anyone who was fighting them. No. Anyone who refused to support them. They made minimal attempts to be persuasive. It was just nogbu nzogbu, enyimba enyi!

They had a warped sense of entitlement that you must support Peter Obi, and if you did not, then you are supporting a “wrong candidate” (the exact words they used).

They were more fascistic than Mussolini. In terms of education, Peter Obi is at the bottom of the barrel, with his second-class degree in Philosophy. You can’t compare him to a PhD in Water Engineering (Kwankwaso), a Master’s with Distinction in International Relations (Atiku) and a BSc in Accounting (Tinubu). Joseph, have the fear of God and answer this question-am: Am I lying?

But he was the right candidate, and anyone who did not support him must be pilloried.

What led to the Nigerian Civil War? It began with the January 15, 1966 coup at which Majors Emmanuel Ifeajuna, Chukwuma Nzeogwu, Chris Anuforo, and Don Okafor killed political and military leaders from every region of Nigeria except theirs.

Major Adewale Ademoyeg was involved with the plotting but not the killing, unlike the others who participated in the massacre.

And in 2023, after Peter Obi lost, prominent Obidients with direct ties to Peter Obi were openly calling for a military coup to restore Obi’s mandate. These guys have learned nothing!

And that was only one reason for the civil war. The other reason was the arrogance and caricaturing of other Nigerians by supporters of Majors Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna (the coup leaders) after the coup.

Soon after the coup, some of their supporters printed almanacs with caricatures insulting prominent Northern, Western and Mid-Western leaders.

In one of the almanacs, Chukwuma Nzeogwu was shown with his leg on top of Sir Ahmadu Bello’s head. Interestingly, in that almanac, Ahmadu Bello’s head was put on the body of a goat.

Those almanacs outraged Northerners and made them turn against the Aguiyi Ironsi-led government.

In February of 1966, a famous Igbo highlife maestro named Celestine Ukwu released a song titled Ewu Ne Ba Akwa, meaning ‘the goat is crying’.

Rightly or wrongly, other Nigerians believed that that song was mocking the killing of the late Sardauna by Nzeogwu. That song and the almanac mocking the Sardauna ignited a p0grom against Igbos in the North. And things eventually descended to civil war.

Is that not what happened in 2023? Were Obidients not caricaturing those who refused to support Peter Obi? I personally was caricatured. Waziri Atiku, Bola Tinubu and their supporters were also caricatured. New Celestine Ukwu songs of 2023 were composed to insult those who supported other candidates instead of their right candidate.

And just as their leaders did not caution them in 1966, so did Peter Obi not caution them in 2022/23. There was no low or dirty thing they did not do, including publishing the photos of Justice Tsamani’s children along with threats to kill them (as they did with my then one-year-old daughter) and recruiting
Rufai Oseni to lie against me and others.

And then there was the Yes Daddy leaked audio, which revealed their true intention for the Muslim Ummah.

History does not repeat itself. Irresponsible people repeat it and blame history for repeating itself.”

THE TRIBUNAL JUDGES
Judgement is not based on emotion, nor morality (We can argue about that) judgement is practically based on what the law says and what facts and evidence is being put before them.
We can argue all we want, or complain about the things we see during and after the election, but the fact are what determines an election result, and quoting one of the judge at the tribunal while striking out a petition against the emergence of the President;

The five-man panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani not only dismissed the consolidated petitions of the PDP, the APM, and the LP, but it also clearly affirmed the victory of Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, in the presidential poll.

Justice Tsammani said, “This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear their cost.”

They have shown what supremacy of the law means and this isn’t to throw away the morality side of things, but as at current times, Nigerian law is based on evidence provided which the political parties against the current president have failed to provide or that seems not substantive enough in the words of the judge. All eyes therefore to be on the judge and there is nothing there to say.

THE APC AS A PARTY
The ruling All Progressive Congress has retained power for another four years, and possibly eight years, which would accumulate to a sixteen years rule, since wresting power from the PDP in 2015. Whether their rule has favoured Nigerians or not posterity would judge that.

But the goal of every political party created is to own and have political power, which the APC has continued to have till further notice.

LOSERS

THE PDP AND THE LP

This is an expected input in our analysis of the losers and winners of the PEPT, judgement, had the result gone another way, the debate would have been would Peter Obi’s camp be the winner or Atiku’s PDP be the winner in other words, irrespective of where the outcome of the judgement had being, it would not have favoured both parties concurrently. Hence the question, why did the division happen prior to the election?

Both parties would have gotten their acts right, by sticking together, and wrestle power from the current APC, and eventually decided on where or how power would have been shared. However, like Davido had said in his tweet several hours ago “A divided house can not stand” and indeed this is a reflection of what had happened at the tribunal.

MORALITY
Morality holds significant importance in the Nigerian political landscape and legal system. It serves as a guiding principle for political leaders, shaping their behavior and public perception.

Ethical conduct and integrity are crucial for gaining the trust of the citizens, as leaders who demonstrate moral values are seen as genuine and committed to the welfare of the nation. Moreover, morality plays a pivotal role in combating the pervasive issue of corruption, as leaders who uphold ethical standards are less likely to engage in embezzlement and bribery, fostering a more transparent and accountable government.

Weather the election, as well as the judgment depicts morality is another thing entirely. Nigerians can decide that, but if the outcry is what one can for by, then we are doing ourselves more harm than good.

The system is encouraging a situation where we have strong men and weak institution, devoid of morality, and for the law, it can always be compromised.

THE MEDIA
A popular “X” influencer had recently posted, “In the United States, it took two Journalists – Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein to get President Richard Nixon to resign (Aug 8, 1974).

What did they do? The duo wrote investigative stories that triggered investigations into the Watergate Scandal, which subsequently compelled the president to address the nation and resign with immediate effect.

In Nigeria, several months to the 2023 presidential election, an in-depth investigative story exposed to the whole world how a presidential aspirant (now president), was arraigned before a Chicago court over involvement in heroine trafficking and forfeited $460,000 drug money to the United States (Hundeyin/Vanguard, 2023).

Unfortunately, in Nigeria, stories like this don’t hold water because of the compromised nature of institutions that claim to be the “last hope of the common man.”

One day, we’ll wish we got things right as a people, but it’ll be too late for regrets”

This has done justice to how weak the fourth Estate of government has become. It has been crippled that even media houses avoid political investigative stories, because their survival now depends on the advert placement by the powerful politicians dominating the country currently.
