The late actress Sola Onayiga is well remembered for her portrayal of Ireti in the venerable TV series “Fuji House of Commotion,” in which she “tortured” her family with her domineering culinary prowess.

She was reportedly admitted two weeks ago to the ICU section of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

Film critic Shaibu Husseini posted an announcement on his Facebook page saying, “I have just learned that the distinguished Stage and Screen Actress and Fellow of Theatre Arts Auntie Sola Awojobi Onayiga has passed on.

“Auntie Sola, who is best known for living the role of Ireti aka Catering practical in the defunct television sitcom ‘Fuji House of Commotion delightfully’, Reportedly passed on this morning. Journey well, Ma! Journey Well!”

In 2015, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) chose the late Onayiga to represent Ikorodu Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

After completing her secondary education, the successful actress began working for the Federal Capital Development Authority, or FCDA.

“I was employed as an interviewer; that is, I interviewed those who went around the country to sample opinions about the suitability of Abuja as the Federal Capital Territory. This was around 1976 and 1977. I was posted to Dodan Barracks to interview the soldiers,” she said in a 2016 interview.

She spent two years as a student at the National Institute of Internal Auditors before leaving to pursue theatre studies at the University of Ife (OAU).

She began her acting career as a novice. She performed in Fred Agbeyegbe’s The King Must Dance Naked as her first professional gig.

She received what she described as a professional fee for her performance as Queen Odosun, one of the main characters. Most people started referring to her as Queen Osun after the role.

The outstanding actress appeared in Checkmate and several Nollywood films in addition to Fuji House of Commotion.
