Nigerian chess master and child education advocate, Tunde Onakoya, has reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon after completing an intense 64-hour session in Times Square, New York.

The record-breaking feat was achieved on Saturday, April 20, 2025, alongside his playing partner, U.S. chess expert Shawn Martinez.

According to Guinness World Records, the duo surpassed the previous benchmark of 61 hours, 3 minutes, and 34 seconds, set in 2024 by Norwegian pair Odin Blikra Vea and Askild Bryn.

Onakoya had first attempted the record in April 2024, clocking 60 hours before losing the title to the Norwegians two months later.

With this latest achievement, he not only reclaimed the title but set a new global benchmark.
