Women needs to support women- Funke Akindele
At the recent premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s film Labake Olododo, Funke Akindele, film producer, director and actor expressed unwavering support for her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, noting women needs to support women.
Akindele emphasised that “Iyabo deserves all the support” and highlighted the importance of women supporting fellow female actors and directors in the industry.
Akindele’s advocacy for solidarity among women in Nollywood is not new. Her career, spanning over two decades, showcases her commitment to uplifting others in the film industry. She first gained recognition with her role in the United Nations Population Fund-sponsored sitcom I Need to Know, which aired from 1998 to 2002. Her portrayal in the 2008 film Jenifa further cemented her status as a household name.

Beyond her on-screen achievements, Akindele has ventured into production and direction, creating platforms for emerging talents. Her recent project, Finding Me, has garnered positive reactions, resonating with audiences for its relatable storytelling. This is right after her film, Everybody Loves Jenifa hit records for the most streamed African film of all time and earned Billions on Box Office and on the cinemas across the continent.
In support of her colleague, Iyabo Ojo, Akindele brought her fashion game to the premiere of Labake Olododo, adorning herself in a peach butterfly dress, giving social media what to talk about for days.
