Women Who Slay

SLAY Festival, an outdoor celebration of innovation, culture and technology is back for its second edition on February 17^th at Tafawa Balewa Square.

With the festival fast approaching, we profile 15 women who are participating in different ways.

1. Name: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Actress and Philanthropist

Role: Speaker

Profile: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, famed actress and philanthropist, will host a keynote session on her groundbreaking career in Nollywood and the lessons she’s learned in sustaining a career and building a fulfilling life.

2. Name: Chika Uwazie, CEO, Talentbase

Role: Moderator

Profile: Chika Uwazie is a human resource expert and CEO at TalentBase, a Silicon Valley-backed startup, which provides human resource software for African businesses. Chika believes that sharing knowledge on the intersection between technology and HR as well as advocating for women in technology encourages other women to take a seat at the table. At SLAY Festival 2017, Chika was an expert at our SME Corner and is returning this year to moderate a panel.

3. Name: Funke Opeke, CEO Main One Cable

Role: Speaker

Profile: Funke Opeke is a Nigerian electrical engineer, founder of Main Street Technologies and Chief Executive Officer of Main One Cable Company, a communications services company. Funke will be leading a session called Building a Business in Africa: Real Talk where she will talk about the real issues facing entrepreneurs in the market and how to overcome them.

4. Name: Ink Eze, Founder, AsoEbiBella

Role: Speaker

Profile: Ink Eze is the Founder of AsoEbiBella.com, a platform for sharing African traditional styles. She became BellaNaija Weddings editor in 2013, and Assistant Editor of BellaNaija, heading the lifestyle section – style, beauty and living until January 2017. Under her leadership, BN Weddings gained international prominence and became Africa’s foremost wedding media brand with millions of followers across several platforms and coverage on BuzzFeed, BBC & more. Ink will join a panel on turning content into cash and make an impact in the busy digital space.

5. Name: Jessica Akano, Talent Acquisition Manager, Andela

Role: Speaker

Profile: Jessica is the talent acquisition manager at Andela, responsible for the strategy to find the best minds and future executives at Andela. She is passionate about enhancing employability and guiding people towards identifying and obtaining the right jobs. At SLAY Festival she’ll be sharing how fresh graduates can find jobs in Nigeria’s best places to work.

6. Name: Simi Nwogugu, Executive Director, Junior Achievement Nigeria

Role: Moderator

Profile: Simi Nwogugu is the Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, which is a non-profit economic education organization that inspires and prepares young people for a successful future. Simi brought JA, a global organization in over 100 countries, to Nigeria in 1999 and since then the organization has reached over 690,000 students in primary and secondary schools nationwide. At SLAY Festival she will be moderating a panel on our Health and Wellness stage on the topic of ‘designing a life you love’.

7. Name: Lynda Chiwetelu, Full Stack Developer, Hotels.ng

Role: Masterclass Instructor

Profile: Lynda Chiwetelu is a full-stack web developer with a focus on back end engineering at Hotels.ng. She has experience working with NodeJS, AngularJS, PHP, MYSQL, MongoDB, Sphinx, ReactJS, Git, RESTFUL APIs and Linux Servers and will be teaching an introduction to coding masterclass.

8. Name: Chidinma Okoli, Founder, Financially Literate Africa

Role: Masterclass Instructor

Profile: Chidinma Okoli is the founder of “Financially Literate Africa”, where she educates young Africans on themes around financial literacy and how to slay their personal finances. She also educates young people on affordable investment options to enable them to build wealth and get started on their journey to financial independence early on in life. Chidinma will be hosting a masterclass on the ‘millenials guide to managing your personal finances’.

9. Name: Damilola Obafemi, Student, University of Lagos

Role: Student Ambassador

Profile: Damilola is a law student at the University of Lagos and previously served as the Vice President of the Law Students Society. She joined the SLAY Festival team as a Student Ambassador to be a part of a movement that inspires, encourages, motivates and empowers women.

10. Name: Deborah Ryan, Student, Yaba College of Technology

Role: Student Ambassador

Profile: Deborah is a student entrepreneur at the Yaba College of Technology. She joined the SLAY Festival team to use her passion for event planning and community outreach to connect more young women to opportunities for learning and networking.

11. Name: Idorenyin Eme Ugwuegbu, Sahara Sunrise

Role: Vendor

Profile: Eme Ugwuegbu left an accounting career to start selling just two products: shea butter and black soap. Nearly 20 years later, she has expanded to more than 200 products and promoting the natural products. At SLAY Festival, she’ll be introducing her products to a new generation of natural skincare lovers.

12. Name: Salma Bello, Founder, Scentimental Nigeria

Role: Vendor

Profile: Salma Bello is the founder of Scentimental Nigeria, a scents and perfume company inspired by Salma’s love for travelling and discovering new places. Salma was a vendor at SLAY Festival 2017 and is coming back after the great success she had last year.

13. Name: Ugonna Ibe-Ejiogu, CP Woman Lagos

Role: Vendor

Profile: Ugonna Ibe is the creative director of CP Woman Lagos, a Made-In-Nigeria contemporary women’s wear brand for the young professional woman looking to invest in quality transitional pieces with an extra special touch. With a passion for sustainable fashion businesses, she founded also Rack Advisory, which offers full service consulting from brand strategy to garment production. At SLAY Festival, you will find Ugonna showcasing some of her very popular and affordable pieces.

14. Name: Hilda Awomolo

Role: SLA Team Member

Profile: Hilda has been working with She Leads Africa for nearly a year on the digital team, creating great content on Facebook and Twitter. At SLAY Festival you’ll find her running around with a camera and microphone to showcase all of the fun happening for our community across the globe.

15. Name: Nkechi Osuji

Role: SLA Team Member

Profile: Nkechi is a member of the business development team working to find brands and partners who can support the SLAY Festival experience. At SLAY Festival you’ll see her working with all brand partners to ensure everyone has a great time at the event.
