This new release represents a remarkable comeback for the artist since his previous album, “Punk,” in October 2021.
“Business Is Business” showcases Young Thug’s unwavering artistic prowess, offering listeners a captivating musical experience. The album features an array of celebrated guest artists, including Drake, Future, 21 Savage, Lil Gotit, Yak Gotti, Travis Scott, Bslime, and Fun.’s Nate Ruess.
Notably, the album’s executive producer is Metro Boomin, with additional production contributions from prominent figures such as Southside, Wheezy, FNZ, Dr. Luke, and more.
The album’s release follows Young Thug’s cryptic teaser campaign, initiated through a QR code posted shortly after the release of his longtime collaborator Gunna’s album, “A Gift & a Curse.”
The teaser gained momentum online, amplified by the support of influential figures within the music industry, including Gunna, Metro Boomin, Drake, Chance the Rapper, Wheezy, G Herbo, Coi Leray, Lil Durk, 21 Savage, Southside, and more.
For Young Thug, “Business Is Business” bears significance beyond its musical achievements. The album emerges amidst legal troubles faced by the artist and other members of the Young Stoner Life (YSL) collective.
Young Thug, along with Gunna, Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick, and others, encountered arrests on charges related to gang activity in Georgia. Young Thug specifically faces accusations of participating in criminal street gang activity and conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Additionally, he faces charges related to alleged possession of drugs and weapons. Throughout the legal proceedings, Young Thug has maintained his plea of not guilty.
While Gunna secured a release from jail after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate the Georgia RICO Act, Young Thug remains incarcerated and has faced consistent denial of bond.
Concerns regarding his potential impact on the community have been expressed by a judge overseeing the case. Some co-defendants have reached settlements, while Young Thug awaits trial.
Initially, 28 members and associates of the YSL collective were named in the indictment. Several notable individuals, including Gunna, Unfoonk (Young Thug’s brother), Lil Duke, Slimelife Shawty, Trontavious “Tick” Stephens, Antonio “Mounk Tounk” Sledge, Walter Murphy, and Antonio “Obama” Sumlin, have pleaded guilty.
However, Derontae “Bee” Bebee and Tenquarius “Nard” Mender have chosen to reject plea deals. Yak Gotti also remains incarcerated after being denied bond.
Jury selection for Young Thug’s trial commenced in January, with the presiding judge estimating that the process could extend until September. Currently, no jurors have been selected, and a firm trial date has yet to be set.
Despite his time spent in jail, Young Thug’s presence in the music world persists. He has continued to make notable contributions through collaborations on various tracks, including Yeat’s “My Wrist,” Killer Mike’s “Run,” Calvin Harris’ “Potion,” and Rae Sremmurd’s “Royal Flush.”
Young Thug’s exceptional performance on Gunna’s “Pushin P” garnered him two nominations at the 2023 Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.
