2 youths face child defilement, abduction charges
Two men, who allegedly conspired to defile a 15-year-old girl, on Tuesday appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused — Jamiu Yusuf, 19, and Rilwan Oduntan, 20 — both of No. 10, Onigide St., Ijora-Badia, Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of child defilement and abduction.
The prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo told the court that the accused committed the offences at 8.00 p.m. on May 12 at their residence.
Ojaokomo said the accused conspired to abduct the girl and forcefully had a carnal knowlegde of her.
“The complainant said that she was in front of her house when the accused came to meet her to ask for direction to a street in the area.
“The girl said she offered to help them not knowing that the accused had plans to abduct and rape her.
“The complainant said when they got halfway the accused suddenly grabbed her hands and forcefully took her to their house.
“She said they locked her up in their room and took turns to rape her,” Ojaokomo said.
Ojaokomo noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 137 and 267 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, ordered that the file should be forwarded to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for child rape.
The Magistrate granted the duo bail in the sum of N30, 000 each with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case to June 18.
