2027: ADC vows to unseat Kaduna governor

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), in collaboration with a coalition of opposition parties in Kaduna State, has pledged to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

The group, which includes members of the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), declared their commitment during a press briefing in Kaduna.

Spokesman of the group, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, a former APC member, said the coalition is determined to build a strong political front under the ADC platform to challenge the APC both in the state and nationally.

He revealed that prominent opposition figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, are in support of the initiative.

According to Lukman, state leaders of the ADC, such as Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha, Patrick Didam, and Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman, are already working with the coalition.

He also noted that other key political figures, including Senator Nenadi Usman, Labour Party’s National Chairman, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, and Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, have endorsed the movement, though absent due to travel.

The coalition was unveiled nationally on July 2, 2025, in Abuja, with ADC chosen as the official platform. Lukman said consultations have begun in Kaduna to strengthen party structures across the 23 local governments and 255 wards.

He emphasised the group’s goal of promoting inclusive politics, tolerance, and unity in a state long plagued by divisive politics.

He warned against reducing the coalition to a platform for personal ambitions, stressing the need to avoid weak structures dominated by political surrogates.

“We must produce a party with collective leadership committed to addressing the real issues affecting citizens,” he said.

Lukman added that negotiations are ongoing to finalize the national interim leadership of the ADC, after which formal guidelines for party reorganisation at all levels will be issued.

He concluded by stressing that unity among all opposition parties is essential to defeating the APC and President Bola Tinubu, both nationally and in Kaduna State.
