The chairman of the Lagos mainland local government, Bayo Yusuf Ige on Thursday hinted that only the emergence of the former chairman of Lagos mainland Local council, Alhaji Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa (B.O.B.) as the next governor of Kwara State would address and rectify the seeming unequal citing of developmental infrastructure in the state.
Ige, who addressed newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State capital when a group “Like Minds” within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifelodun Local Government Area organised a sensitisation event soliciting support for the aspiration of Bashir at “ile omo Igbomina”, lamented that though, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq performed well in sustaining the development of Kwara Central at the expense of other areas, added that B.O.B. would address the obvious lopsidedness if voted into office in 2027.
Ige, who is also the chairman of the group, said: “Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is trying and doing well in the Kwara central, but if we give Bolarinwa the opport, the problem in the Kwara South will be taken care of.
“B.O.B is prepared for the growth of Kwara State; he is concerned about the development of Kwara State having done a lot for Lagos State as the Chairman of Lagos mainland local government and as a former House of Representatives from the area,” he canvassed.
He hinted all that all the ongoing approved developmental strides in the mainland local government were laid down by B.O.B.
He enjoined all across party divides to route for the emergence of B.O.B. as the next governor.
Earlier, the group chairman said the forum was a movement “driven by purpose, powered by the people, and pointed toward progress to demonstrate our collective strength and shared aspiration.
“Our presence here is a peaceful proof of popular participation. His support is not built on money or manipulation, but on merit and consistency. He has neither induced nor imposed himself; rather, he has inspired and impacted lives through decades of dedicated service.
“Hon. B.0.B’s political profile is both rich and rare. From grassroots governance as a
Councillor and Local Government Chairman, to national service as a Member of the House of Representatives, and strategic leadership as State Party Chairman, his experience spans both executive and legislative arms. His leadership was instrumental in the historic 2019 “Otoge revolution, which peacefully ended over four decades of political dominance and
ushered in a new era of accountability and inclusiveness in Kwara State,” he said.
On the issue of zoning, Ige warned that: “while inclusion is important, we must be cautious not to allow sectional sentiments to suffocate state-wide competence.
“Historically, from 1999 to 2023, all three senatorial districts-North, Central,
and South have actively participated in the governorship process, with the most capable candidates emerging through competitive engagement. Leadership should not be zoned by
geography alone, but earned through experience, excellence, and empathy.
“As a people, we must resist the temptation of entitlement and instead embrace the principles of performance. Progress is not promoted by parochial politics, but by purposeful planning.
“The future of Kwara State depends on choosing a leader who is tested, trusted, and truly transformational.
“We, the concerned and committed citizens of Ifelodun Local Government Area in Kwara
South, firmly believe that the state deserves a leader who will not only sustain but surpass the developmental strides of the current administration. Kwara needs a builder of bridges, not barriers; a unifier of people, not a divider of interests,” he sought.
