Former Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Timothy Anjide, on Monday led a high-powered delegation to submit the nomination form of Governor Abdullahi Sule for the Nasarawa North senatorial race under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking to journalists after the submission, Anjide explained that the governor’s decision to contest was driven by overwhelming calls from stakeholders and residents of the zone.
According to him, the delegation comprised members of the State Executive Council, the Secretary to the State Government, the Director-General of the campaign organisation, and other supporters drawn largely from the Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone.
He explained that the zone, which includes Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon and Wamba Local Government Areas with over 50 wards, had unanimously urged the governor to represent them at the Senate.
Anjide noted that although Sule would have preferred to personally submit his nomination form in line with party tradition, supporters insisted on doing so on his behalf as a demonstration of collective endorsement.
“We are here on behalf of His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule, who is vying for the senatorial seat of Nasarawa North. The people have unanimously called on him to contest, even against his personal wish,” he said.
“We felt it was important to present the form ourselves to show that this is not just his ambition, but a collective demand by the people.”
He commended officials of the APC for what he described as a warm reception and assurances of a level playing field.
Anjide expressed confidence that Sule’s candidacy would enjoy widespread support, stressing that the governor’s track record in office had endeared him to the people.
Responding to questions on what the governor hopes to achieve at the National Assembly, Anjide dismissed suggestions that Sule was seeking the Senate because of unfinished business as governor.
“I would rather put it in terms of continuity,” he said. “He has a clear framework for human and capital development, which he has faithfully pursued.”
He added that Sule’s vision for Nasarawa State goes beyond infrastructure, focusing also on human dignity, unity and social cohesion.
According to him, the governor’s experience in governance and his network of goodwill would be deployed to attract more development to the senatorial district and the state at large.
“If he goes to the Senate, he is not going there to start afresh, but to build on the foundation he has already laid and continue to attract development,” Anjide said.
He described Sule as a valuable asset who would contribute meaningfully to legislative business and national development.
“We are confident that Nasarawa State and indeed Nigeria will benefit from his presence in the Senate. In him, we are sending a ‘golden fish’ to the National Assembly,” he added.
